FISH STORY

This was a pretty interesting story from The Sunday Wichita Eagle Newspaper a couple of weeks ago. A resident in the area saw a ball bouncing around in the pond and when he went to investigate, it was a flathead catfish who had obviously tried to swallow a child's basketball which got stuck in its mouth.

The fish was totally exhausted from trying to dive but unable to, because the ball would always bring him back up to the surface. The resident tried numerous times to get the ball out but was unsuccessful. He finally had his wife cut the ball in order to deflate the ball and release the catfish.

You wouldn't believe it if you didn't see the attached photos.

Presence of mind

John works in a supermarket. A man came in and asked John for half a kilogram of butter. The boy told him they only sold 1 kg packets of butter, but the man was persistent. The boy said he'd go ask his manager what to do.John walked into the back room and said, "There's a bloody fellow out there who wants to buy only half a kilo of butter." As he finished saying this he turned around to find the man standing right behind him, so he added, "And this gentleman wants to buy the other half." The manager finished the deal and later said to John, "You almost got yourself in a lot of trouble earlier, but I must say I was impressed with the way you got yourself out of it. You think on your feet, and I like it a lot.Which place are you from?"John replied, "I'm from Mexico, sir." "Oh really? Why did you leave Mexico?" asked the manager.John replied, "They're all just prostitutes and soccer players up there." "My wife is from Mexico," the manager said.John replied, "Which team did she play for?"

Near, far wherever you are, you are safe in my heart and my heart will go on and on and on...

Dear All,

On Thursday I lost my mother.

She was a thoroughly gentle woman, tender and caring. Every person used to love her and she was always been a symbol of endurance.

She was a genuine Indian woman. She came from simple middle class loving family. Unfortunately she married to the rich joint family and her in-Laws' family was nothing but a political party. All they knew were to play dirty games and to do court cases and police cases for the financial gains. It was very hard for her to digest all these things as her ideas were simple and straight.

Then my parents left that house without taking single penny with them and shifted to a small village. The days were of extreme poverty and the life was painstaking.
We also in our childhood suffered through all these things and became rude due to hardships of life. This rudeness hurt her also many times.

Now recently she was experiencing quite good life. My sister got married and was in California. Now she is settled well in Pune and have two sweet children. My younger brother is a software engineer in Seepz and he is engaged now and was going to get married in May. I was also making quite well. And suddenly death caught her unpredictably. The massive heart-attack was so unexpected that her face and body was calm and every onlooker was feeling as though she is sleeping peacefully.

Last three days I cried like anything. First she was my mother and second she was a good person as well. And with me many of my relatives from my mothers' side cried.

Indeed kind death solved all problems of her life.

This is a true story

The following scene took place on a British Airways flight between Johannesburg and London. A White woman, about 50 years old, was seated next to a Black man. Obviously disturbed by this, she called the air Hostess. "Madam, what is the matter," the Hostess asked. "You obviously do not see it then?" she responded, "You placed me next to a Black man. I do not agree to sit next to someone from such a repugnant group. Give me an alternative seat." "Be calm please, " the Hostess replied. "Almost all the places on this flight are taken. I will go to see if another seat is available." The Hostess went away and then came back a few minutes later. "Madam, just as I thought, there are no other available seats in the Economy class. I spoke to the Captain and he informed me that there is also no seats in the Business class. All the same, we still have one seat in the First class."

Before the woman could say anything, the Hostess continued: "It is not usual for our company to permit someone from the Economy class to sit in the First class. However, given the circumstances, the Captain feels that it would be scandalous to make someone sit next to someone so disgusting." She turned to the Black guy, and said, "Therefore, Sir, if you would like to, please collect your hand luggage, a seat awaits you in First class." At that moment, the other passengers who were shocked by what they had just witnessed stood up and applauded.

If you are against Racism, please send this message to all your friends.

Forts

Dear All,

In my last blog I described that my state, Maharashtra is rough, robust, and sturdy & the people are warrior by heart. Here are the pictures of some forts built by great visionary King Shivaji who fought a guerilla war against the enemy who was 100 times higher in number, wealth and human resources using the geographical advantages of the land and the brain. Also he was a kind and impartial king and the people in his kingdom were happy and contented.

These pictures reflect the strength and natural beauty of Maharashtra.

Thanks and regards,

Mrudula.

Hair cutting

I never experienced the hair cutting in my childhood as my father used to think that girls should have long, thick hairs. But there is different experience for my cousin. She was given a Lolly-pop while the barber was cutting her hair. When the Lolly-pop eating was over, my cousin found herself bald.

What is your own experience?

A salute to...

Dear All,

I live in a tiny village of Mumbai City, Dadar. Yesterday over 1 million people visited it to tribute the great person called Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on his death anniversary.

He was a person who came from poor, downtrodden family which was a victim of casteism because the race of his family was of untouchables.

Overcoming numerous social and financial obstacles, Ambedkar became one of the first untouchables to obtain college education in India. He went on to pursue higher studies in the United States and England, where he earned law degrees and multiple doctorates for his studies and works in law, economics and political science. A famous scholar, Ambedkar practiced law for a few years before he began publishing journals advocating political rights and social freedom for India's untouchables. Leading numerous public agitations, he would become an undisputed political statesman of the Indian Oppressed classes.

He worked hard, earned the knowledge and became a lawyer and first maker of independent India's constitution. It was not a simple job to be an architect of Indian Law system as India is a vast country with many religions, disciplines, faiths, many customs and traditions. Since he came from lowest level of society he was well aware about the problems of grass-root people.

His work was as good as Martin Luther King, George Washington, George Washington Carver and Abraham Lincoln. Because of him today Indian people are enjoying constitutional freedom especially the women and downtrodden people of India.

I'm writing this here proudly because I know his contribution to woman of India in the constitution of India. But unfortunately some people from higher castes, some of my relatives speak sarcastically about him and his followers. This is too bad. We cannot underestimate a contribution of a great person like him just because he is from the backward class.

Some people from my village say that those who visit his memorial create sanitary problem by coming so much in number. I have a question for them. The sanitary problem is harmful to nature but the plastic pollution made by so called higher society is far more harmful and everlasting than this.

It is high time for India to forget the religious, regional & linguistic differences, casteism to bring up the nation. For that let us start from ourselves.

In Yajur-Veda, 4000 years ago it is said that let us come together, let's eat together, let's think uniquely. The Vedas are well-known for their high values. We must follow this idea of universal brother hood.

The link to read more about Mr. Ambedkar : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambedkar

I found myself in one of those 1 million people who saluted Dr. Ambedkar for his contribution to the society and the nation and the mankind as a whole.

Regards,

Mrudula.

Dear All,

There was a latest survey about young generation taken by the MTV international, a famous music channel. It was taken in 14 different countries. These 14 countries included in the survey were Argentina, Brazil, China, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, Sweden, the UK and the U.S.

In this survey MTV found that Young Indians are happiest while Japanese youth is the most miserable.

It is really a true thing that youth in a developing country is twice happy than that of developed country.

As far as India is concern I feel that this is because of two main reasons:

1) Religion - The Indian religions are peaceful, gives the message of love and contentness. Because these religions are not spread through sword or destroying the races, the majority people love each other. Overall there is a communal harmony. There is no unsure about life because of next person. Also Indian religions highly respect the others' religions. So there is no hatred for the next person on religion basis.

2) Indian Cinemas - On and average Indian Cinemas (Bollywood) is pro non-violence, optimism, gentle, Humor and light comedy w.r.t to highly sexy, crimeful, fightful abroad movies. Indian Cinemas are musical also. You will rarely find here the movies with violence and cruelty. The movie like "Lage raho Munnabhai" spread the message of Gandhi-ism through the comedy.

Therefore the Indian youth is happy-go-lucky, optimist and enjoys the life.

I read many blogs of the foreigners who are fan of Indian movies and they like overall impact of Indian movies on their life. Though Indian movies may not be technically superb but they are emotionally touching. They teach how to live the life and why to live the life.

I still remember the film "Thodasa Rumani Ho jayen (Let's be some romantic)" few years ago.
The heroin of the movie is Anita Kanvar who is simple looking and plain living. She lives in a small town and thirty years of age. She is skilled in repairing, cooking and other routine activities. But she is slight masculine in her behavior and tough.

Unfortunately she is still unmarried which is a subject of discussion and astonishment for that tiny town. She does not care around their taunts.

That year there is no rain in that village where the farming is based on rain-water. Every common man is worried because of that. The life overall is dreary.

Here Anita also feels that since she is not good looking and she does not have feminine abilities she is rejected by everyone while other girls from that village are getting married easily. The dry, non-raining situation in the village making her gloomier day-by-day as well.

Suddenly one evening Nana Patekar comes at the door. He says that he is a traveler and he wanders village to village. He contains many skills like to fly in the air, to know other's mind, he can make spectacles which see through other's heart, can give medicine on any kind of disease etc. and the rain will come to this village if he invites. For that he will need just 5000 rupees.
As she is very sad she doesn't believe any of his words and rejects his offers. But her father is a positive minded and says that if his 5000 rupees could bring happiness in that village than there is no good thing like that.

Nana Patekar ask them to perform some rituals and through that he changes their mood from sadness to romantic, happy and cheerfulness.

The best thing I like about the movie is a title song:
[When there is no sign of the (watery) clouds in the village and the days are also like a dark night]
[This is the season, Come on,]
[Let's make our gloom a flute]
[Let's be romantic....]

(BTW This film is very musical and there are plenty of such a sweet songs)

In my religion, Hindu according to it's mythology there are 330 million Gods and still the number is increasing as God is the concept for a good soul, an idol. Therefore there are new Gods coming up like Veer Birasa Munda, Saint Dnyaneshwar, Saint Thiruvalluvar, Buddha, Mahaveer etc.

There are many disciples, many faiths, many rituals and many philosophies about God in India. Some worship Lord Ganesh, Some Lord Shiva, Some Lord Vishnu, Some Lord Buddha.

But I like the Sun God the most. That is because you have to go to temple to see the other Gods while the Sun is the only God who comes to your doorstep everyday. Every morning he comes with a smile and a new day.

Also in Sanskrit other name for the Sun is Mitrah (The friend). Indeed he comes to your bed like a friend every morning, tickles you with his soft hands and suggests you to get up and start your day.

The Sun is a bright, strong with unlimited energy. It is said in Hindu Mythology that one who worships the Sun receives the strength to fight every odd. Now it is proved that early morning rays gives Vitamin D and prevents rickets, alzheimer and osteomalacia.

According to great researcher and freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak, the "Arya" were living in Antarctica. Therefore the Sun is the special and most important God in Vedas also.

It is said in mythology that the Sun is an ornament of the sky and it has a Golden Chariot and Seven Green horses. It is a Royale King and he produces the universe and the bio-living habitat. Also he has strength to destroy all kinds of diseases.

When I see the flag of Germany I feel that the black colour in it represents the dark night, orange the early morning before the sunlight and yellow rather golden colour the colour of sun / new day.

There is a famous verse about the sun in our litterature :

The sun in the sky travels everyday with all odds against him, like a chariot with one wheel, seven horses trod by serpents and the driver without legs. Great people don’t depend on their accessories for their achivements.

(Rathasyekam chakram bhujagayamita saptaturangah niralambo margaha charanarahitah sarathirapi. Raviryartevantyam pratidinammuparasya narabhasyah kriyasiddhi satve bhavati mahatam nopakarane)

So true, isn't it?

Passion

It is all started in 1992. It was an era of 286 Computer. There was no windows, no MS-office, Tally... nothing but only DOS. The software technology was just a small child.
But there was an .exe file called QBASIC. There were two games that time 1) Snake game - snake eating a dots and lengthening 2) Gorilla Game - A Gorilla throws banana with given projectile angle and dances raising the hands after winning.
Later in 1994 the 386 PC came. Then we started playing Tetris, Pac-man, and Book-worm. These were simple but mind attracting games. The mine-sweeper is still my favorite game.
In 1996 on 486 we played first 3D game called "Wolf3D". The best 3D game ever available free. The technology used was just similar to that of today's 3D games. I was mad for this game totally. I crossed all the 6 floors without using a cheat code. Same time I used to play Prince, Mario, Aladdin, Keen4 etc. But wolf3d was wolf3d.
Few years later the Pentium 3 arrived and 1.44 MB floppy drive to and it was now easy to copy the games from one computer to another. One of my neighbors was used to play Shadow warrior (It is still free on the net to download), first game with multiple modern weapons, too good graphics and animation. We dare not to play that time but we used to enjoy watching it.
The Doom Series was also good but too terrifying. It was something where one must hold his hand on the Heart. It was the game not for weak-minded.
Then the Road-rash, Age of Empires, World War II, Close Combat, V-cops, Heavy-weapons, Duke1 and Yahoo as well as MSN games came. Some of them were free and some of them were with time limits. I played them all. But I never thought of buying them. Because even a $ 10 is for us Rs. 500 in Indian Rupees, fifty times more. Who will buy it?
Now days I play Bejeweled, Claw, Shadow Warrior, Age of Empires, Rubic's games, KChess and Free-spade more. It is a die-hard passion. Once upon a time my mother used to switch off the plugs directly fading up by our computer games playing; now there is no one to stop us. So we play atleast an hour a day, if not possible at least 10 minutes a day. Person who has this habit could only understand the passion behind it as one alcoholic knows the thirst for the liquor of other alcoholic.

The mother's love....

In a zoo in California , a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs.

Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth.

The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve.

After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veter inarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only orphans" that could be found quickly, were a litter of weaner pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger.

Would they become cubs or pork chops?????????????

Take a look........ you won't believe your eyes!!!!

Winter is here...

Dear All,

My 360 friend Kubi Petra asked me how is weather in India. I told her that as India is a vast country like US, Russia there is a different weather in different regions and therefore different geographical conditions like Icy regions, rain forests, deserts (which I spelt desserts while writing to her), rocky regions, heavy monsoon regions etc.
Then it stroke me that winter is already here in Mumbai. The temperature is too cold ( i.e. 19°C) for the people of Mumbai. Here average temp is from 25°C to 38°C throughout the year. The weather is Humid and hot since Mumbai is adjecent to sea. Specially who comes from the interior part of India find problem to adjust with the sweat. Otherwise the temperature is even and does not change much in the night.
OTOH in interior part of India the weather is odd. Too hot in daytime and too cold in night. And it is dry too. I had not travelled much but was once in Kanshi. The nights there were too cold for me in summer also as I'm heat loving person.
Currently we shiver when cold water comes through the tap. And also shiver to see the temp. in some part of India dropped to 4°C and the foggy nights.
I just can't imagine to go to Gulmarg to enjoy ice skating and other winter sports as well. Because winter in Mumbai also brought tremendous problems to me already. Cracking of the foots, cough, dry skinning etc.
I trully feel that let this wicked winter should end asap.
Looking forward to the spring with the cup of hot filter coffee.

Good Bye Lenin...

While learning German, we have an opportunity to see nice German Films with English Sub-titles (Which are essential for me) at Goethe Institut, Mumbai. These films are free to see for everyone and one can go to German Resource Centre at Churchgate and see these films in their office hours.

Some films out of them are really marvelous. 'Good bye Lenin' is one of them.
This film is a comedy which touches our heart occasionally. It tells us what a simple person can do maximum for his/her mother to have her last days happy.

It is a story of Alex Kerner who is a TV-mechanic in East Germany (Zonies). His father is a Doctor and goes to West Germany for a conference when Alex is small and lives there forever and doesn't come back to his family. The Stasi (Communist Police Force) harasses Alex's Mother about it. Therefore, to prove her faithfulness for the communist Govt., she becomes a hardcore loyalist. Her life is nothing but the Communism itself.

Eventually Alex grows up and finds that Communism is cruel and makes people slave. There is no political and thinking independence to the people. Therefore he decides to rebel against the ruling communist party.

One fine day, the mother sees that Police is beating Alex and other people brutally who are asking for the freedom to the press. And she collapses immediately. She doesn't even get the proper medical help timely as police is busy beating people.

Now she is in coma after a severe heart attack while the Berlin-wall which is dividing Germany breaks down and Germany is a one nation now. Alex's sister is working with Burger King and in love with a boy from West Germany (Wessie). Alex is also in Love with a Eurasian girl. But he loses his skillful job as many other Zonies and now must work as a Dish-TV seller.
After nine months Mother comes out of coma and asks Alex to take her home. The doctor warns Alex that her condition is critical and any simple excitement could also harm her. Therefore Alex must conceal the fall of Communist Regime from her.

Here the comedy begins. Alex and his friend pretend to the sick mother that the communist rule still exists in East Germany. And for that he does number of things which are humorous. For example he buys brand new pickle from the market for his mother and searches the old named bottles in the waste container, pretends that the coca-cola is originally East-German product and it's theme was stolen by capitalist countries like US, makes a forged news reels with the help of his clever technician friends similar to that of Communist regime, Sigmund Jahn who is a astronaut of one time and a taxi-driver in the new arrangement becomes East-German Chancellor in Alex's fake news reel who declares that doors of East Germany are open for the West Germans who are enthusiastic to see the so called great development in communist rule.
Slowly they try to convince the mother that Germany is now united nation. But suddenly her condition again worsens as she remembers about her husband who is living in the West Germany from last many years and she is now hospitalized. Alex decides to find out the Father. Searches him and bring him to her. Her last days are happy because of that and she dies satisfactorily in the illusion that communist party still rules the East-Germany.

This story though humorous sometimes makes us emotional and teaches us some basic human values which we are missing often.

That is why this is a most successful film of year 2003 in Germany.

My Entry

This is my entry for Shaildidi's "Blog on Teacher's Fest". It is a bit late as I was about to give my German Exam and it was not good thing to write on my German Language Teacher that time. So I refrain myself from writing on her.

In school and college I mostly liked all the teachers and since I was good in general knowledge in every subject I was favourite student of all the teachers in all the subjects (Though I used to get hardly passing out marks because of dis-graphia, a writing problem syndrome). So if my any school or college teacher meets me we speak atleast 10 minutes affectionately.
But after doing my 'Bachlors of Education' degree I realised that either person could be good, affectionate or the person could be a good teacher. Rarely anyone has got both the good qualities at a time.

I, myself is a good person and not a good teacher. I have a tact to communicate with student skillfully, I produce liking for the subject in them but I cannot make them study that subject. Or there is no huge positive change in their subject when I finish teaching them. May be because I hated studying myself throughout. So one should understand that every good person is not a good teacher.

My German teacher is an Indian currently living in Achen, Germany.
Since she was in Germany for a long period she was very much strict with us specially about German Words' pronouciation. She used to throw Marker Pens sharply at the students the moment he/she is wrong in the punctuation or the grammer (It is wrong according to the morden teaching methods). So the class was bit terrified and used to speak German very carefully without making a mistake.

Secondly she was very impartial and used to treat each one equally and used encourage the students to express their views specially deprived students like me.
The other good thing is that she never cared about what students feel about her as a person but she wanted that her each student should be perfect in learning and therefore she tried to be perfect in teaching.

She used to teach the German in various ways and the most I like out of it was by playing the games. Games loosens the atmosphere and it improves the learning as well. Games are the best helper for a good teacher.

The another thing was that she was always particular about homework. She never used to spare the students who don't do the homework. Because a home-work is redoing the learning what is learnt that day. The person who does the homework regularly does not feel the burden at the time of exam.

But due to her strictness nearly whole class was against her. They used to look at her as if she is a dictator. And never had a kind of affection towards her.

But for me there was no problem at all because of two things 1) I used to think who could be cruel than that of my destiny who recently separated my mother from me 2) As a teacher I felt that she is the best. I experienced a vast change in my language since she has come to teach us.
Not only me but whole class felt a better change in overall language since she started teaching us. Also I felt that good teacher is the one who do care about students' performance and not the self-image. Isn't it true?

Do visit Shailadidi's Teacher's Fest blog also whose idea inspired many of us to write on our honourable teachers : Shaildidi's blog (BTW A good inspirator is also a good teacher)

The gentle romance

In our German class everyday a theme is given to discuss upon. Few days ago a theme `Romanticism' is given. It was very interesting indeed. We all enjoyed it.
According to me :

1) Most romantic - Both sit on the bank of the river near a thick forest cheak to cheak whole night. They both merged in each other. What a surprize ! The water is still, the forest is silent, the stars also forgot to blink and just shining calmly. The only soft voice they hear is the heart-beats. (This idea I took from Uttar Ramayana which is about Ram and Seeta, someday I'll mention the original verse about it here)
2) Standing below her window whole night so that she could see him early morning when she opens the window.
3) Watching the stars togather whole night silently.
4) To slim down when separated from him. And to send the message via clouds to him that you are safe and anxious to meet early. (Taken from 'Meghdoot', the Sanskrit poem)
Some other opinions :
1) A single umbrella for both in rainy season.
2) He prepares a tasty meal for her.
3) A gift not costly but nice one without a cause.
4) Giving fresh flowers.
5) Watching a her favourite movie or his football match togather though not interested at all.
6) To walk on the beach without shoes with hand in hand.
7) To go with her to art-gallery though his knowledge about drawing and painting is zero.
8) To speak through eyes ocassionally.
9) To keep the rose life-long carefully, he gave first time.
10) To wait anxiously for him alone in the crowdy market.
11) To be wet in the sea waves togather.
12) To write a letter to each other by hand and decorating it.
13) To click the photos togather in funny poses with coloured faces.
14) To build her hairs softly and carefully.
15) To go to classical music concert especially at night (e.g. to the concert of flute by Pt. Hariprasad Chourasia or Santoor by Pt. Shivkumar Sharma)

Joined a new company

Hello friends,

I joined a new company called IBM-Daksh which is a BPO I really hated the BPO industry because of it's culture, workout etc. but its the destiny which provided no option to me. What to do? Otherwise I loved to work as a Panel translator.

In translation industry, a prompt service is required and last many months there were so many changes in my life that I'm unable to give enough time for it as there were many events one after another . So my clients gave the upcoming jobs to other translators.

Anyway keep trying for better opportunity is another best solution on the given situation which I'm practicing.

My this job is quite new so I have to give extra hours to it every day. I may not able to spare much time here on 360 to write the blogs.

But I'll surely try to visit other's blog without fail.

Mrudula.

Festival of the most fascinating Baby in my relation....

Many people asked me about this photo. It is a photo of my Nephew. My elder sister's son. He is 4 years old. His name is "Satvik". Though it means "The gentle", he believes more in using physical strength.

Whoever he finds younger or weaker than him, he uses his power ample. He is our Sumo wrestler. He has an elder sister who is 7 year old "Surabhi". Occassionaly he beats her as well, as she is shy and silent girl.

Once he was punished to stand on the desk for beating other students in pre-school (Jr. K.G.). So my mother asked him why he was standing on the desk in school. He replied showing innosence "Aaji, there were snakes in our class. So teacher asked me to stand on the bench". He is too sponteneous.

Now is there any possibility of snakes in urban school? But still he has 1001 reasons to give.
But otherwise he is sweet and funny. He still can't speak L and R, instead he speaks Y. It is fun to listen to his words.

He likes to come to our house very much. But my sister lives in another city, 4 hours away from us. Whenever we call him and ask him when he is going to come to our house he says this morning (although it is noon that time) or on sunday.

But he takes various promises from us as a pre-arrival condition. Specially he wants mangoes 12 months an year. Also he wants from my father everything which should not be shared with my brother or me. All that things Grandpa must bring for his sister and him only.

The most touching thing is that when he comes to our house, he feels that I should not go to office. He starts crying if he doesn't see me for a while.

Once I asked him what he will give me if I come to his house, he said, "Kajukatali (sweets), a Sofa and a Diaper.

He is a strange combination of sweetness, cunningness, kindness, tenderness and strength. We miss him very much everyday.

Little Girls are very smart but little boys pull at the strings of heart......

Sabudana Vada (Sago pattice)

From my birth, I born and braught in vegetarian family. So I never had the taste of Non-Veg. food (though surprisingly my all friends are Non-vegetarians and some of them are total non-vegitarians).

They used to wonder how I survive on vegetarian food ("The grass" in their language). But it is not at all difficult when you are a citizen of India where thousands of spices are available at your hand. One can make a simple Brinjol Veg. in various ways.

Also according to Hindu mythology, the taste of the food depends on the maker and the server of the that food and not on ingredients. The Mother is always a good cook who serves with kindness and the food has only one ingredient i.e. LOVE.

Find enclosed a receipe which is very famous in my state Maharashtra and which is a crispy, tasty and anytime food. It is mainly prepared in vegitarian homes specially on the fasting day.

Sabudana Vada (Sago pattice)
Ingredients
2 cup sago (Sabudana, also known as tapioca), 2 medium sized boiled potatoes, 1 medium sized raw grated potato, 4-5 green chilies, 1 small piece ginger (optional), 1/2 cup coriander leaves, 1/2 cup Peanut powder, 2 teaspoon cumin seeds, 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional), 2-3 teaspoon sugar (optional), salt to taste, 3-4 cups oil or ghee for frying.
Method 1. Soak sago in water. Drain off all the water and keep it aside for half an hour to one hour (Depending on the quality, sometimes the sago needs to be soaked overnight in a little bit of water). It should be double in size due to wetness. 2. Mash the boiled potatoes. 3. Make a paste of ginger and chilies in a grinder. 4. Now combine the sago, ginger-chilies paste, grated and mashed potatoes, coriander leaves, peanut powder, cumin seeds, suger, lemon juice. Mix it properly using a little bit of water. 6. Make small balls of the mixture and flatten them. 7. Heat some oil or ghee in a pan. 8. Deep fry these vadas till golden brown and crispy. Tip: Grated raw potato makes the vadas crisp.
With this Sabudana vada "Wet coconut dip" is must to serve.
"Coconut Chutney (dip)"
4 tablespoons grated coconut 2 teaspoon(s) bengal gram (chana dal) roasted 1" piece ginger peeled and chopped 4 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves chopped 4 green chillies chopped 1 teaspoon(s) each of mustard seeds and black gram (udad dal) ½ teaspoon(s) asafoetida powder 4 curry leaves 1 red chilli(es) broken into bits 2 tablespoon(s) oil lemon juice and salt to taste
Grind the coconut, roasted gram, green chillies, coriander leaves and ginger to a fine paste using a little water. Pour the paste / chutney into a bowl and adjust the consistency using suitable amount of water.
Heat the oil in a pan on medium level for about 2 minute(s) till it is hot enough. Add the mustard seeds. Let them splutter and then add the black gram (udad dal), red chillies, curry leaves and asafoetida powder. Fry briefly till the gram turns red and pour it on the chutney.
Add salt and lemon juice to the chutney.
Also if there is "Masala milk" to be served with this then then its Yummy...
milk - 1 litre, cardomoms - 4, raisins - 10, honey - 2 tsp, sugar - 6 tsp, saffron strands or kesari powder - 1/4 tsp, date fruit - 1, cashews - 10 ( cut into small bits), almonds - 4 (cut into small bits).

Boil milk well without adding water. Add all other ingredients and mix.
Tip : Although the readymade Masala is available in the market it is tastier to prepare it at home...

This is my entry to 'SABIHA's festival of foods' on 360°.

K, A, and M

This is a story of a three mad girls on this earth. Once upon a time, exactly saying in July 1990, three fun loving girls met each other accidentally and they knew that their friendship is going to happen instantly they saw each other because this knot was built in heaven by the God's auspicious hands.

Those were magical days. We have just completed the school and for us, college was a kind of charm for two main things 1) Can wear civil dresses 2) Can bunk the lectures. That time the idea about a college was limited to this only. It was before globalization and there were no number of TV channels to corrupt the mind.

It was a bit fun and a bit discipline where we studied. It was a junior college and was just an extension of a school. So there were a certain rules and regulation but the teachers were caring.
Though we three used to bunk lot many periods, no teacher ever pointed out as they were aware that these three girls are just trying to enjoy their college days. Really, the life was too simple and straight that time.

After bunking the period, we used to eat Shevpuri at the hawker's cart and then used to go to any of our friend's house and used talk limitless.

The topics were usually college people, school days, food, movies, songs and sometimes politics.
As far as boys in our class were concern, they were all sure about our idiotism as well as brilliance. They just used to keep away from us.

Though none of us were studious, we used give instant and sharp answers. We used to cross the professors if needed.

Our nature was strange, thinking was odd, living was too different from each other and liking had no similarity at all. Then also our friendship was divine and days were magical.

What a great combination it was...
On the left is Kala, in the middle it is me and on the right is Archana.

Kala was a born mathematician. She was a little bit more sincere in study than us. Kala's favorite song that time was "बालों मे जो पंख डारे हैं गोरियाँ, कितने कबुतर मारे हैं गोरियाँ, नजरों से वार कर के.." [O fair lady, The feathers you are wearing in your hair, how many pigeons have you hunted just by the strike of a look]. I used to think how vulgar this song is .

The other funny thing about her is that someone told her if she goes to church for 9 Wednesdays and lit a candle, she will pass the Std. 12th with good marks. Next Wednesday two of us were in the church standing in a line for 3 hours. My patience was over same day.

On the last night of exam day we used to go to her home and study whole night to fill the backlog. Once Kala wrote a poem also on exam at that time -
And as the second tick by,
I watch the stars in the sky,
Weaving a joupe of shining diamonds,
Hearing the Oh - so - pleasant lullby!
Then it comes to my realization
that another day has come to pass,
Yet I have not given attention
to studies of so much importance !
What ... Oh what in the name of the God,
Is to happen of me, if I continue like this;
Come to me and help me Dear Lord,
For I want to, oh how I want to study and achieve bliss!
I want to reach the greatest height,
I want to achieve a real goal,
I want my parents proud of me,
I want them saying "There, that's my girl"!
I hope someday this will be really true,
I hope someday sky will be clear blue,
But now all I can see is the dark gray mist,
Enveloping the ray of light that I know there amidst!
I write all this in pain,
I write all this in confusion,
How I wish there was a way,
How I wish there was a solution!
I'll write, I'll write,
I'll continue to write,
For now that's all in my might,
And as the second tick by....
- M. Kala

Her father is a learned person and was GM at MTNL. We all used to respect him too much because though being a Government Servant, he never took any bribe due to his principles (When the officers under him used to get free trips to Switzerland as a part of a bribe, these people did not have a refrigerator at home).

He used to call Kala "Papa" which in Tamil means Sweet Baby. When Kala was 4-5 years old, he called her and asked her "Your name will be Kala now onwards, will it do?"

There are many things that I could say about her as many thoughts are crowding in my mind. Someday I'll write more about it.

My other friend is Archana. She is also highly learnt. She did L.L.M. with distinction. But we would have never believed it in Std. 11th. She was spontaneous, humorous and bubbling. Incidentally, Bubbly was her pet name. Her house was near our college, so we used to go to her house nearly every day. As I said, we used to chat unlimited. But 80% talking was done by Archana only. She is specialized in speaking about the people, their behavior, and lifestyle. Human Psychology was her passion naturally.

There were many colleges in her vicinity. Our favorite game was to stand at her house window and she used speak about every person who is walking on the street. If a boy is walking, then how he is walking and how he is dressed and what his body language is saying and lastly he could be from which college.
[The girl winks at me. She bumps my heart. She harasses me by calling my name in the middle of the road] I used to think this song is also vulgar. .

Once we had gone to one of our colleagues' (Bhoomi's) house. Archana and I reached early and Bhoomi's mother offered us newly made chocolate cake. We just tasted it and glanced at each other as a flop show. Then the bell rang and Kala arrived. Archana winked at me and asked me to pretend to eat that cake fast. We did the same. When Kala saw us eating fast, said enthusiastically, "Smart people, you haven't awaited for me, wanted to finish early" and ate a big piece of a cake. We both had big fun.

About me there is no much to say. I meet you time to time here.
This is my entry to Rajashree Varma's the festival of friendship on 360.

Now, three of us, do not meet each other much. I left college after Std. 12th because I was mad about an idea of farming in the remote village. Archana changed the college after Std. 13th, did L.L.M. and is a law professor. Kala did M.S.W. at TISS and is in England now serving in a bank.
About 2.5 years ago we met which was a meeting after 10 years. Kala accidentally found my e-mail which I sent her in 1996 and sent me a general mail and told me she is going to come to India in the next month. I immediately visited Archana's House but she was migrated to some other place. Her neighbors gave me her telephone number after many requests. I called her and we planned a meeting.

After that we are still in touch via occasional mails and SMS. Every one of us is suffering because of one reason or the other. We do not have much to say something good to each other. But we have a treasure of trove of our friendship and the old memories which is scenting our life with tranquility time to time.

True friends,
don't always need
a lot of words
to stay close.
There is a silent communication
always taking place,
within their minds and hearts,
they communicate much
while speaking few words.
They sense within
their spirits,
when other
is in need.
They know when to reach out,
they know when to stay away,
they know when to speak out,
they know when to remain silent.
Friends, even though far,
can stay close as long as
there is love in hearts...

Today I have other best friends on 360 like Shelley, Shailadidi, Devyani, Diwakar, Chandra, Patric, Aanandkaka, Bob, Jacob, Thomas, Sabiha, Cheese, Anoop, Prasad, Swathi, Lahiri, -xh-, Rinku, Cynthia, Kubi/Petra, Kamala Sekaran, Atul, Balaji, JJ, Rosy, Skully, Verena, Nidhi, Pure Presence, Santhosh, Milind....

This list is endless. Indeed, the 360 itself is a treasure island.

Devraai (Sacred Grove)

The word 'Devrai' stands for God's own forest.

It was a tradition in India that certain land near the temple used to be reserved for the God where no human interference was allowed. Since there was no human touch, that land used to change in thick forest gradually. Also disciples due to faith did not use to cut the trees once they grow. So it was a kind of nature preservation in the name of the God.

Also there was kind of fear to the greedy people, who used to feel that if they cut the wood from that place, it'll be a sin which cannot be wipe out even after doing thousands of good deeds.
These forests were thick like Amazon jungles and full of zoological and botanical varieties. Many birds and animals used to take resort to it.

Some of these forests still present in Indian continental. But due to changing ideas after a globalization, people's faith on these traditions lessening which is making these forests thinner.
Modern day God's forest:

Suppose you have a land of an acre or two at countryside. Build a wall surrounding it. Throw the different types of seed like Banyan tree, Pimpal tree into it time to time. Do not water it; do not disturb it in any manner.

Also do not place to forget a saffronized stone adjacent to this wall duly worshipped and to spread a rumor that this God is very angry God and dislikes human presence.

Let nature do it's own job. In 2-3 years, you will find that nature is working fine. It is like One straw revolution described by Masanobu Fukuoka where natural farming takes place without plowing, no pesticides, no genetically modification of seeds etc.

It is going back to nature naturally.

After few years you will find many zoological changes are taking place and you are a God father of the natural forest. If needed, place a ladder next to the wall for curious onlookers.

You will find that those were strong and fit, they were only survived. But the shrubs, creepers, crops which were died, they were the part of natural cycle and were destroyed naturally by the insects and birds etc.

The dance

The song 'Kajra re' is from the film "Bunty Aur Babli"

****

Once the famous tourist company "Kesari Travels" was given the achievement award by Australian Tourism Ministry for giving highest tourist to Australia that year.
In that ceremony at the end there was a dance party. Initially not many were interested in the dance since the Embassy was playing quite unknown Australian party songs. But when they played “Kajra re” on Kesari people’s request, it was the change in scene. Not only teenagers but everyone, ladies and children as well started dancing on that song.
It tells how much this Bollywood song is famous in India.

Later Australian Councilor liked that song so much that he told his people that in every party by Embassy, this song will be played.

Change of heart

Two-year-old Noor Fathima is definitely a scene-stealer. Ask those who came across her in the Narayana Hrudayalaya (hospital for cardiac problems) in Bangalore. If each smile that came her way could have plugged the holes in her little heart, she would no longer have needed the surgery she is in India for. Ventricular septal defect with pulmonary stenosis is how her condition would be described in medical terminology. In layman's language, this means that she was born with several holes in her heart. There is also obstruction to the blood flow to her lungs.
There could not be a better argument than Noor's story in support of the case for the resumption of road and rail links between Pakistan and India.
In Lahore, she was under the care of Dr Masood Sadiq, who advised cardiac surgery to remedy her condition. Dr Sadiq's brother, a nephrologist in the US, suggested India as the cheapest, closest and most reliable place to get it done. "Its not that we could not have had this operation done in Pakistan," explains Nadeem. "It was just that doing it in India, even given the extra costs - travel and lodging for several weeks - proved to be cheaper." The newly opened road link made it possible for the little girl to reach her doctor in Bangalore quickly and in a cost-effective manner. "Also, doctors here are accustomed to performing such surgery. One feels the quality of their treatment would be far higher," Nadeem said. The shorthaired Tayuba nods in agreement, her eyes on her little girl, who smiles cheerfully, oblivious to the major surgery she will shortly undergo at the Narayana Hrudayalaya, a hi-tech heart hospital set up a couple of years ago by leading surgeon Dr Devi Prasad Shetty. The Sajjads arrived in Delhi on Friday evening. They reached Bangalore the next day and were touched by the reception they received from the hospital staff. They have come prepared to stay in India, if necessary, for up to three months as they want to make sure that Noor is completely cured before they take her back. They have, after all, waited long enough to bring her here. "I have complete faith in the capabilities of the doctors here," says Nadeem, looking a little emotional as he looks at his little daughter.

Booming Medical Tourism in India

What's called medical tourism - patients going to a different country for either urgent or elective medical procedures.
India is considered the leading country promoting medical tourism-and now it is moving into a new area of "medical outsourcing," where subcontractors provide services to the overburdened medical care systems in western countries.
Many types of medical treatment in India cost a fraction of what they do in the United States and other Western nations, and citizens from these countries are flocking to India by the thousands. Until recently, it was the other way around, as upper-income Indians commonly rushed to America and Europe for sophisticated treatment.
With world-class medical care, equipment and facilities now available in India, patients from the United States and other developed countries are going to India for treatment.
A number of private hospitals in India offer packages designed to attract foreign patients, with airport-to-hospital bed transfer service, Internet access, and other facilities. Some packages include add-ons, such as a yoga holiday or a trip to the world-famous Taj Mahal.
Howard Staab, a 53-year-old carpenter-contractor from North Carolina, was diagnosed last year with a serious heart condition. Mr. Stabb's doctor recommended surgery as soon as possible. But he had no health insurance.
The estimate for hospital care alone was nearly $100,000. The cost for the surgeon, the cardiologist, the anesthesiologist, the radiologist, and the pathologist, along with the cost of a heart valve and prescription drugs, has brought the total up to a staggering $200,000 - assuming no complications. Howard Staab did some research and decided to go to Escorts Hospital in New Delhi, where the estimated cost was under $10,000, including airfare, surgery, and rehabilitation.Howard Staab said, "I was apprehensive (in the beginning) because I had no experience with India or about the quality of care, and the situation there. But my experience was superb. From the time we arrived at the airport, Escorts (Hospital) people escorted us to the hospital, gave us excellent care. The surgeons and all the staff were extremely professional, kind and caring. Everything went very well and I was so satisfied and impressed with the care."Dr. Naresh Trehan is the executive director of Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre in New Delhi, a leading private healthcare provider. Dr. Trehan worked as a heart surgeon in Manhattan from 1968 until 1988, but returned to start the Escorts Hospital Group in India. He says the success of the operations performed and the care dispensed at his hospital have established the institute's credibility.
Dr. Naresh Trehan said, "Now we do over 4,000 heart operations a year, and the mortality, which is an index of how well things are, is 0.8 % which is even better than most places in the world. The other thing that we measure is infection rate. Ours is 0.3 % as compared to the world average of 1%."
Dr. Trehan says American citizens not covered by insurance - or those in countries such as the United Kingdom where there are long waiting lists for many National Health services - prefer to receive treatment in a country like India where top-tier institutions can provide high-quality health care at a fraction of the cost.
The American system is excellent, but the cost and the compulsion to send people home early is actually stressing out many people, and they prefer to come to our country where we can take care of them in a more comprehensive manner. Our nurses are being trained to U.S. levels. Two hundred of our nurses have already gone to the United States for training. Our doctors have established their credentials all over the world. Today, 7 percent of doctors in America are Indians and 11 percent of the specialists are Indians. Language is another big advantage in India, says Howard Staab, who spent more than three weeks in Escorts Hospital and at a resort, recuperating after surgery: "Doctors and nurses were all Indians, and many of the doctors were trained in the United States and Britain and most of them spoke very good English. I did not have any trouble understanding them."Howard Staab's partner Maggie Grace, who accompanied him on his medical trip to India, is writing a book about their experience. We want to help people in the United States know they have choices, says Mr. Staab: "There will be our book coming out very soon. My partner Maggie Grace is writing it. The book title is Patient Pilgrimage: A True Story of the First Americans Travel to India for Heart Surgery and the website is http://www.howardsheart.com/ .Howard Staaab says one key to his trip's success was that it combined a high degree of medical excellence with a human touch.India is hoping to expand its medical tourism industry. In addition to Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre in New Delhi, Apollo is another major hospital group and is one of Asia's largest private healthcare providers. Apollo Group has six hospitals in India, one in the southern city of Hyderabad where Apollo also has its headquarters.
Other Apollo hospitals are in New Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune and Kolkata. Apollo has treated 43,000 foreign patients during the last 3 and a half years. Several medical experts say India has established expertise in practices such as cardiac care, cosmetic surgery, joint replacements, and dentistry. And it has immense potential for medical tourism as medical costs skyrocket in the United States and other developed countries.

The rain

Yesterday at my place, it was the first rain of the season. Early evening there were lightening strikes. Later it started raining. Everywhere, it was a fragrance of soil (मृद्-गन्ध) which occurs after the first rain in the summer on the hot earth.

The place I live costal, adjacent to the sea. The weather is hot and humid nearly nine months a year. Day starts with sweat and hot breezes. Usually, temperature is between 33° to 42° Celsius.
In winter it comes down to 20° Celsius in the night. Therefore one can understand the importance of rain in our life. We wait for rain as much as the farmer in our country waits for it.
The rain here is heavy and stormy. Sometimes it continues for 2-3 days non-stop. Previously Mumbai was the group of seven islands. The rainwater, no matter how much, used to merge into sea. But later these seven islands were attached to each other by dumping soil into sea so sea’s capacity to take water lessened. Also Mumbai’s population now reached 15 million. Therefore, now it is pressurizing sanitation systems, gutter systems and when it rains, there is a heavy water logging.
Especially, those who come from the interior part of India, do not have experience of continuous heavy rain, floods, water logging and traffic jam. Also in heavy rain there is very less visibility since black clouds covers the sky. Due to water logging people sometimes have to spend there nights on the railway stations. Just like being underground at the time of heavy bombing in war times.
Ones I had stuck in the other part of city with my distant grandmother in who never saw so much rain in her life. We spent night at my mother’s friend and that night my brother came from the office to my house walking for 5 hours through the water upto chest high.
Since I live in the heart of the city, every year we have guests who stuck in the rain and some of them are unknown to us. Once there were 50+ guests. There was a girl who was just married and came to Mumbai for the job. Her in-laws were in Nagpur. She never saw the rain like this in her life time. She was highly frightened. She called my cousin who was her colleague. He called my brother and gave her whereabouts which was just 3 stations away and my brother had gone and brought her to our house.

Same thing happened with my father’s college time friend’s daughter. She was working in up town and due to rails were not functioning she called her father. In such a situation, males can spend their time sleeping on the platform but it is difficult especially for girls and women. They feel awkward. Her father called his 2-3 friends and found our telephone number and asked us to fetch her.
These 50+ people were there in our house for 3 days and our daily program was playing cards and eating. Every year we enjoy such guests. Our house is like having a sprout.
And not only us but every original Mumbaait enjoys this. Other time people may not share the seat with forth passenger in the local train, even will be ready to throw you out of the train on the platform due to the crowd. But in heavy pour, people stand on the road and provide water, tea, food, blankets and even money. Otherwise people sitting in the posh car will look at pedestrians as ignorable thing but when rain plays havoc they will share the car, will give lift upto your place though it is far away from their destination.
The temples, schools will spare space, bed-sheets and food for the voyagers. Some even share their mobile phones so that people can contact their loved ones.
This is Mumbai, the financial capital of India, ready to do anything to earn money. But when calamity comes it becomes one family. The people who usually bargain for 2 rupees of vegetables with the vendor will give 100 rupees smilingly to the unknown. Because they know, thy need is greater.

The baby vessel

Once upon a time there was a village called "Aanandpur". In that village there lived a miser called Dhandas (Slave of the money). Very next to him, there lived a man called Dhoortmati (Cunning minded). Both were not satisfied with their income. So both of them used to cheat people and try to extract money from them as much possible.

One fine day, Dhoortmati thought that why not he should cheat Dhandas. His cunning mind started planning since it was not easy to cheat a person like Dhandas. And he got an idea.

Next morning he had gone to Dhandas and told him that he needs two small but similar vessels since he will have some guests at the night and also promised Dhandas to return the vessels in good condition. Dhandas did not believe him and asked for Rs. 20/- as a cautionary money. Dhoortmati shown unhappiness but gave him the deposit and brought that vessels home.
Next day Dhoortmati did not turn up in the morning. Dhandas was happy that these Rs. 20/- was now belonged to him. But in the evening Dhoortmati came to his house with 2 vessels of the last day and a very new vessel comparatively small in size.

Dhandas was curious and asked about the third vessel. Dhoortmati said that last night the wife vessel delivered this baby vessel when they were fast asleep. Only his wife woke up hearing the cry of labour pains and helped the wife vessel to go through the hardships.

All were happy to see the child’s birth in the house after so many years and his wife asked Dhoortmati to give the rest to the baby as well as baby’s mother. So he brought the vessels back in the evening.

Hearing all this, Dhandas was very happy though he knew that in reality no vessel can give birth to another vessel. But it was the greediness that blinded him.

Some days later Dhoortmati again come to Dhandas and asked if could spare some vessels as there are guests again in the house. Dhandas not only gave him 2 big and heavy vessels willingly but also did not take any cautionary money since he was sure that in return, he is going to gain something more.

Next day when Dhoortmati did not turn up, Dhandas was sure that destiny is really smiling at him as he is going to get a healthy and strong baby in return.

Days passed on, there was neither the sign of the original vessels and nor the baby vessel. But as said, the hope is mad which keeps the person waiting. Nearly after a month when Dhandas became impatient, had gone to Dhoortmati asked about the vessels and the expected baby.
Dhoortmati said in sorrowful voice that his mother vessel died in labour pain and father vessel also died as he was grief stricken due to wife and baby’s untimely death.

Dhandas did not believe it and ran to the king with the hope of justice. The king ordered Dhoortmati to attend the court. Dhoortmati explained the king the history and asked the king that if the vessels can give the birth then why they cannot die?

King not only agreed to his plea but made him foreign minister of his kingdom.

A difference

Yesterday, our Hon. Swamiji arrived in Bangalore for a fortnight-long camp at our Math here. In His holy-speech, Swamiji made a mention of a very touching incident: During the camp conducted for youngsters in Shirali last month, the disciples were taken to the beach one evening. Dr. Gaurish Padukone, a veterinary doctor who takes care of all the cattle belonging to the Math in Shirali, had planned and arranged a unique activity for the youngsters. During this time of the year, turtles from the sea come out on the sands to lay eggs. Most of the time what happens is, these turtles are caught and taken away by the fishermen, as turtle meat is considered a delicacy. The freshly hatched baby turtles which are orphaned even before they come into this world, keep flapping their tiny limbs instinctively trying to reach the water. This sight is heart rending.Padukone Gaurish had collected hundreds of such fledgelings in baskets. The disciples were asked to collect these in their hands and set them gently into the sea. What a beautiful way of teaching values to the young minds!!
The moment I heard this from Hon. Swamiji yesterday, I was reminded of the following 'forward' which I had been wanting to send you..... A man was walking down the beach at sunset. As he walked along, he saw another man in the distance. He noticed this man kept bending down, picking up something and throwing it out into the water again and again. As he went even closer, he noticed that the man was picking up starfish that had been washed up on the beach. He was throwing them back into the water, one by one. Puzzled, he approached the man and said, "Good Evening. I was wondering what you are doing." "I'm throwing these starfish back into the ocean. You see, it's low tide and all these starfish have been washed up onto the shore. If I don't throw them back into the ocean, they'll die up here from lack of oxygen." "But there must be thousands of starfish on this beach. You can't possibly get to all of them. And, don't you realize this is probably happening on hundreds of beaches all up and down this coast? Can't you see that you can't possibly make a difference?" The man bent down and picked up yet another starfish, and threw it back into the ocean. With a smile he replied, "Made a difference to that one !!!"
Just remember, no matter how small the deed, it really does make a difference. Make a difference today.

- Sender Dr. Chaitanya Gulvady (Disciple, Chitrakut Math, Karwar)

Heidi, I envied her life

Heidi, a girl from Alps. I envied her life very much. Someday I'll have the life of Heidi. I loved this serial very much. Not only me but my family member's never used to miss a single show of this serial. For time being we used to be with Heidi. We used to laugh with her and we used to cry with her. This serial had a great impact on me. I hope someday I'll have life as simple as her and in the midst of nature.

More about her from the net :

Heidi is an orphaned girl initially raised by her aunt Dete in Maienfeld, Switzerland. Dete brings 5 year-old Heidi to her grandfather, the Alm-Grandfather (originally: Alpöhi; "Öhi" means "grandfather" in the Swiss German dialect of Graubuenden), in order to get a job in Frankfurt. Heidi has a delightful stay with her grandfather in his hut, and with young Peter the goat-herd.
Dete returns 3 years later to bring Heidi to Frankfurt as a companion to a 12-year-old invalid girl named Clara Sesemann. Heidi spends a year with Clara, clashing repeatedly with the Sesemanns' housekeeper Miss Rottenmeier, and becoming more and more homesick. Her one diversion is learning to read and write, motivated by her desire to go home and read to Peter's blind grandmother. Heidi's increasingly failing health and several instances of sleepwalking (it is implied that she has inherited a propensity to epilepsy from her mother) prompt Clara's doctor to send her home to her grandfather but Heidi and Clara continue to write to each other. A healthful visit by the doctor to Heidi and her grandfather convinces him to recommend that Clara journey to visit Heidi. Meanwhile, Heidi teaches Peter to read and write.

Clara makes the journey the next season and spends a wonderful summer with Heidi. Clara becomes stronger on goat's milk and fresh mountain air. Peter is jealous of Clara and pushes her wheelchair down the mountain to its destruction. Without her wheelchair, Clara attempts to walk and is gradually successful.

Clara's Grandmother and Father are amazed and overcome with joy to see Clara walking. Clara's wealthy family promise to ensure that Heidi never has to see her aunt Dete again.

Astrology

I do not say astrology is 100% true or 100% lie but what I observe is that true astrologers usually avoid saying the truth in order not to make that people unhappy and to keep their hope and moral up and therefore they always try to speak doubtful truth or sugarcoated truth or sometimes lie also.

It is the case of many true astrologers known to me who did not take money and astrology is their hobby.

I also believe that astrology is the science. And some people spend their life-time studying it.
Though I met many such astrologers, I observed that they refrain to speak truth. Above is my Kundali and since I'm still unmarried and as there is marriage universality (Marriage is must) in India, it was shown to many astrologers. I heard so many lies from them in their predictions that I do not want to hear any more predictions.

Still I do not blame them. It is said in India that it is a common sense for one not to predict bad things specially about death, marriage, employment etc.

I have seen that same thing is practiced by Linda Goodman or Marjoree Orr or any other western or chinese astrologers.

But I also think that because of this, people loose trust on astrology and astrologers. What do you say?

Sardarji community and we

A TRUE STORY........In the Diwali vacation, Jayant and his couple of friends had gone to Delhi. They rented a taxi for local sight-seeing. The driver was an old Sardar, and Jayant and his pals began cracking Sardarji jokes, just to insinuate the old man.

But to their surprise, the fellow remained unperturbed. At the end of the sight-seeing, they paid up the hire-charges.

The Sardar returned the change. Moreover, he gave each one of them one rupee extra and said, (in Hindi, of course), ''Son, since morning you have been telling Sardarji jokes. I listened to them all and let me tell you, some of them were in a very bad taste. Still, I don't mind coz I know that you are young blood and are yet to see the world.

But I have just one request. Here I am giving you one rupee each. Give it to the first Sardar beggar that you come across."

Jayant continued," That one rupee coin is still with me. I couldn't find a single Sardar begging on the streets anywhere"

Friends, we all love Sardar jokes. But the fact of matter is that Sikhs are one of the most prosperous and diversified communities in the world. The secret behind their universal success, according to me, is their willingness to do any job with utmost dedication.

A Sardar will drive a truck or set up a roadside garage or a dhaba, but he will never beg on the streets. Infact, I found that in CANADA SIKHS are among most prosperous of all communities.
